Our Origin Story

I’m Sarah Marsh, and I’m the Marsh in Marketing Martian. In 2018, after almost a decade of working at traditional marketing agencies, I felt stuck in my career. I spent each day writing strategies for short-term campaigns. While these campaigns got results and helped my clients achieve their goals, they didn’t meet my desire to build lasting relationships and deliver long-term value.

I started a blog project called Marketing Martian. My goal was to dive deeper into the key issues that business owners face and bring newfound knowledge into my 9–5 agency work.

As I researched and wrote articles, I realized that the traditional agency model didn’t match up with my personal values. Many agencies focus on big-budget one-off projects, making it difficult to prioritize deeper, long-term relationship building. If I wanted to offer something different, I would need to do it on my own.

I took the leap and built an agency using the same name that initially inspired me. Today, Marketing Martian has years-long working relationships with most of our clients. Our crew loves watching people and businesses do something they truly care about. That passion is infectious, and we take great pride in working with our clients to help them achieve their long-term business goals through intelligent marketing that delivers real value.

We believe in equality and equity, especially regarding the distribution of opportunities and privileges. Our team comes from places of privilege. We choose to use that privilege to amplify important voices and causes. We ensure the brands we work with are inclusive of all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, or religion. 

Climate Justice

Our planet is the only home we’ve got, and we’re committed to learning and doing as much as possible to leave this planet better than we found it. For us, this means helping people find meaningful ways to connect to nature, placing a higher value on indigenous knowledge, and working with brands that aim to prevent further climate damage. We don’t appreciate greenwashing, but we do appreciate clients whose work focuses on sustainability.
